For many weeks we have been seeing a pair of ducks hanging around our yard and across the street. Every day we saw them JoAnn and I both commented on maybe they have a nest or are looking for a nest. Day after day they would be somewhere around our house.
Then we didn’t see them for a while. Others told us they also had ducks hanging around their house. Yesterday, Nancy our neighbor called JoAnn and told her that a duck was by our drain with two baby ducks.
JoAnn rushed to see just as one jumped or fell from the top of the wall to the street—now that made three baby ducks JoAnn picked him up and carried him across the street to where momma duck was. Momma duck was not happy, she hissed at JoAnn and poked her head and beak at her until she put the little duckling down and the ducking walked to its momma. Momma put her wing around it. JoAnn was headed back in the house but she could still hear the sound of peeping coming from the top of the wall and after examining the bushes she found two more. She picked them up and walked them across the street and gave them to the momma duck, who again hissed and threatened JoAnn. As soon as she put them down, momma duck started walking across the street with all five ducklings in tow. Down the street they went, headed to the lake.
JoAnn was not going to let them get hit by a car or have a dog or cat go after them so she walked behind them all the way to the lake. Now they are all safely swimming in our lake.
