It’s that wonderful time of the year when I get to talk about our Shenanigans Luau once again. June is forever cast into my memory bank as the time for a Luau and all the fun and fixings that go with it. Of course, I can’t take you all along with us to Hawaii for a real luau though; can you imagine what a great plane ride that would be, huh! So, what I’m left with is to try to bring some of the fun and memories to the village for the BEST Happy2Hours of the year. I know I’m treading on a slippery slope saying that because we do know how to have fun on many of the Happy2Hours during the year. But, come on, it’s Hawaii we are talking about and you only hav’ta come to the clubhouse dolled up in your best Hawaiian threads, and we will give you something colorful to compliment your outfit. I’ll get to all the other good stuff in a bit.
This year as in the past we will be handing out silk leis for you, but this time I added a few more items, such as, flower headbands, flower wristbands, and plumeria hair clips for the ladies. Hey men, if you have enough hair on that head of yours, wear some flowers too! Unfortunately, those days are well behind me though. I know a lot of you bring leis that you own as well, that’s awesome of you, but you still can have one of ours to take home with you too. We do aim to please!
Normally, we ask Karen Hellar to provide some theme music for our Happy2Hours, but this year we gave her time off to enjoy some recorded Hawaiian music provided by your karaoke guys Sam and Brian. That is something new this year for us, ‘Hawaiian Tiny Bubbles’ tunes.
I recently did all the shopping for my special Mai Tai recipe that’s a big part of our Luau every year. I guess if you know me good enough, I’m gonna make it happen every time with tropical fruit and two kinds of rum. Normally, the Mai Tais would be a premium cocktail, but for this celebration, I made sure it will be a two for five-dollar cocktail. Why would I do that you ask? Why not, it’s my favorite cocktail in the whole wide world and it’s gonna be my 84th birthday; is it asking too much to share my favorite cocktail with all my friends on my birthday? I think not! Hey, if I can’t afford to take you all to Hawaii with me, then the least I can do is save you a buck or two on a great cocktail, right?
Of course, it wouldn’t be a real “Luau” without something from Diane and her Kitchen Magicians, huh! I promise to let you know what to expect as soon as I get the final word on the appetizers. I know some of the items already and it’s gonna be another awesome party!
I’ll be back to you one more time before the June 1st (4 to 6 p.m.) event so be aware, I’m warning ya.
