Last week I had an uninvited guest appear on my porch. There was a racket going on so I went to investigate. I was expecting to see a squirrel, although I don’t remember ever seeing them at night. But, no, it was a TURTLE! And quite a big one – she/he was a good 10″ across and way more heavy than I would have guessed.
I have no idea from which direction it came. I live on a corner near the lake so I have plenty of access. From the direction it was heading, I believe it wanted to get back home.
I wish I had thought to take a picture, but my only thought was figuring out how to get the turtle home without getting bitten. I put it on a tray, from which it tried to escape, but I finally got her/him close enough to the lake that it would be easy for it to take it from there on its own.
It would be so easy to run over a turtle, so I would like to alert everyone that turtles seem to be on the move. Joy said they even found one in the pool! So, please, no speeding and no disobeying the rules of the road (stop signs in particular). Be a hare.
