LUAU Reminder

Sep 6, 2026

Aloha Village Kānaka and Wāhine!

It is finally time to write about my absolute favorite SUPER Happy2Hour event of the year, the Shenanigans LUAU! It will be on Saturday, September 12, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. You know, in two short hours of happiness we do our best to pass on the Hawaiian Spirit to you. We will start with a traditional greeting of handing out Leis for everyone; have some “Tiny Bubbles” music playing; and fill the clubhouse with tropical decorations from Glenda and her helpers.

Sam and Brian will provide the Hawaiian tunes for us once again as you enter the building and then later for the Hawaiian appetizer munching. We will be honored this year with Maria’s hula and if we are lucky, some hula lessons for the brave among us.

We encourage everyone, if possible, to wear something kinda tropical looking. You have done so for the last several years that we have held the Luau event, so I look forward to seeing a room full of bright colors and happy faces. Now if your closet does not feature something tropical-like, wearing the silk lei we gave you as you entered, will certainly be more than enough for us.

Of course, Diane Perry and her Kitchen Magicians will be serving delicious Hawaiian style appetizers again. Sometimes I blab out what they will be making, but I’m thinking about letting you wonder about it until you get here. I’m not teasing that much though, if you have attended one of our Luaus in the past, you have more than a promising idea of what those tasty treats will be.

Before I get to the part, I love writing about the best, let me say that our main bar will have a couple of tropical cocktails in mind for you in addition to our signature bar. Perhaps it will be a Pina Colada cocktail for only $3.00?

You may not see me working behind either of the two bars but do believe I insist that we offer my own recipe for Mai Tais. So, before the event we buy enough ingredients to be sure everyone gets a chance to try one of my famous Mai Tais. This year I decided to tweak the recipe just a tad with one more tropical ingredient, Passion Fruit. I’m not changing the recipe that much at all, just making it a little bit more tropical. I discovered Passion Fruit juice this year and fell in love with its amazing flavor. Now, if I get positive feedback about the recipe tweak, I will make it a permanent Mai Tai ingredient.

Just in case you are new to the village and my Mai Tai recipe, I use more than just pineapple juice and rum that you might get in a restaurant Mai Tai. I do use pineapple juice of course, but add mango, and guava nectars, and now passion fruit juice. I use two rums, Bacardi Gold, and Meyer’s Dark Rum, plus Orgeat syrup and it’s tropically delicious! The amazing part, I’m still holding the $3.00 price for the cocktail!

I’m hoping that when you see us using the word ‘SUPER’ in front of Happy2Hours, that you do not want to miss any of the five we hold each year. We have only one more SUPER one left, Oktoberfest, next month.
