Correction to ducks and geese Crier article

Oct 30, 2026

According to Kristi in the management office, the fine for feeding wildlife in the park is $1,000 NOT $10,000. That’s a big typo – sorry for that. As the article stated, the main reason for not feeding the geese and ducks is because once they have found a food source they do not continue to migrate – thus we end up with a huge bird population. That, of course, leads to many unwanted consequences including loads of excrement everywhere around the lake. It also contributes to illness. In just the last three weeks we have lost 10 geese and 3 ducks from avian flu according to Kristi.

If you see people feeding the birds, see a bird that appears to be sick, or just have questions about our wildlife you can call FISH AND GAME WILDLIFE HEALTH LAB AT 916-358-2790.
